MAKING PUMPKIN PIE

Sister Brenda Nettleship helped us make pumpkin pie from scratch. You have to cut up the pumpkin and boil it. Then put it in a food processor until it is mushy. You add the other ingredients for pumpkin pies and put it in the oven. Really not that simple but it was good to have pumpkin pie for the Elders. We had to come all the way to England to learn how to make pumpkin pie.

Sheffield A and B zone met at Sheffield 2nd ward building to wait for the bus to go to Huddersfield for Zone Conference. The missionaries are excited to see each other and love visiting.

 Why schedule people for baptism?

 1. It reflects the desire of their hearts

 2. Needs to be realistic or reasonable.

 3. Have a due date.

 4. Write it down.

 They have their agency to choose.

Oral Hygiene and dental health

Language. Our words speak about who we are. If our words were buildings what kind of building would we build? 

1 Cor 13:12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. (New Testament, 1 Corinthians, Chapter 13) charity is the pure love go. Christ PMG page 118 third paragraph. Charity is a gift from God. If you can't say nothing nice then don't say nothing at all.

President Pilkington asked us to write about what are you going to do to apply what is taught today.

When we dive into the scriptures you will find what The Lord wants for you. When ye are prepare ye need not fear.

Giving but not giving up.

Everything can be over come by following the attributes of Christ. Dive into them not just the surface. In six weeks you can become an expert on one attribute. Study it every day. Decide today what you are going to do. The answers are in the attributes of Christ. PMG page 118 Charity and love.

Finding can be tedious but really is refining.

Charity is given with nothing in return.

Video about Chinese person giving to a small boy who took meds because his mom was sick. He helped him and later in life the young boy is a doctor and he helps the old man with medical bills. Life comes full circle.

You are called full time as a missionary.

When you pick one attribute of Christ the other attributes are all connected. Charity is the best and all others follows.

Giving and never giving up.

Our focus is to establish the church. And to become like God is.

1. Heart - remember God. When we remember we learn to know God. That is why we go to church to remember God. The restored gospel enables you to become like Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. D&C 4

2. Baptisms (outcome) we invite others to come to Christ by baptism.

Mark 9:23 Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth. (New Testament, Mark, Chapter 9)

3. Work with members. PMG p160 Association with members is important because it softens people's hearts and often leads them to investigate the restored church.

4. One mission - one zone - we are all in this together. Give of yourself so others succeed. New missionaries are stars not greenies. Those who go home are mega-stars. Those season missionaries are superstars.

5. Finding - the process of bringing new people into the church is not the responsibility alone of the missionaries. When we find, we invite. I have come all the way from Arizona to share an important message with you. Listen to this! What blesses has The Lord giving you to share with others.

6. Teaching - make it interesting when you teach. Use pictures, sounds, booklets etc. Don't monotone the lessons but make them exciting. Rise your sights. Your discussions should focus on the needs of people and how to help them process. PMG 147.

Each missionary with a birthday in the past three months is given a birthday candy bar and called up to the front. Elder and Sister Gibb are all smiles.

ARE YOU ALRIGHT?

Back home in the Arizona when we greet people we would say something like "How are you doing?" Or "How is it going?" Young people would say "What's up?" Or "S'ups?" when greeting their friends. Here in England it took me awhile to get use to their way of greeting. They would say "Are you alright?" Or "You doing okay?" Or " "You're alright?" We only say this back home to a someone after they had hurt themselves or they are ill. For example if they fell down or if they were chocking or something like that we would say "Are you alright?" It took me awhile to understand that their way of greeting did not mean there was something wrong with me when they asked these questions. It was their way of saying "Hello" and they wanted to know how I was doing. I am doing GREAT!

As a senior couple one of our responsibilities is to help missionaries find new flats. The Elders in Sheffield 2 Ward needed a new place to live. We found this three story home on Dorothy Road. Elder Rogers and Elder Thygerson met us there to check it out. They are very happy.

FAMILY HISTORY CENTER

We starting working at the Family History Center here in Sheffield on Fridays. I am so EXCITED!

ROTHERHAM - AMAZING PEOPLE

The elders from Sheffield 4th branch asked us to go with them to Rotherham to teach Fero, Anna and a cousin. We went there to teach them about the law of chastity. To our surprise Fero met us at the door and told us we were going a few blocks away to visit a man he had just met. We didn't quite understand at first what we were doing. We thought that perhaps this man needed an interpreter but that was not the case. Fero met this man and his family and they were having hard times. Because the Gospel had changed his life so much he knew that the gospel could help and change this man. When a person is living the way they should their life is always brighter no matter what. Bad things happen to good people but it is the atonement that helps us to deal with life's problems better. 

This man and his wife have been married for 30 years and have 10 children. Some of them live here and others live in Slovakia. He came with his wife to England to have a better life. We taught him about the Book of Mormon and a little bit about the restoration of the gospel. He agreed to read the Book of Mormon and come to church on Sunday. Elder Brown challenged him to be baptized. When he knows the truth and the spirit speaks to him then would he be baptized? YES! I tell you these people are amazing people. 

HOWARD AND JIMMY

Tonight we went with the Elders to visit a less active member in the ward named Howard. Howard has only been a member of the church for a few years and just has not been coming out to church. He has a good friend named Jimmy. Both of them decided that they needed to make changes in their lives. It was an amazing lesson we had with them talking about the simple truths of the gospel. Jimmy agreed to read the Book of Mormon and Howard agreed to read it with them. They are both coming to church on Sunday. We taught Jimmy how to pray.

The steps of prayer are 1. Start with addressing "Our Father in Heaven." 2. Show your gratitude to your Heavenly Father by thanking him for things that you have in your life. For example: house to live in, family, meeting the missionaries, etc. Just whatever you're grateful for you thank our Father in Heaven of. 3. Asking for things that you might need in your life. For example, Answer to questions, knowledge to know the truth, health etc. 4. Close with "in the name of Jesus Christ amen," 

Jimmy was a little bit apprehensive at first but eventually he gave a wonderful prayer. We told him that the gospel is very simple and to know the truth he needs to read the Scriptures, pray, and come to church. The spirit will testify to him of the truthfulness of the gospel. The elders invited him to take a tour of the chapel so he would know where to go to church on Sunday. One of the elders gave him the baptismal challenge which is when he reads, prays and come to church then he knows that the church is true, then will you be baptized? And he said YES! The spirit was very strong. I will be so excited when I see him at church on Sunday. There are miracles happening in Sheffield.
