GOOD FRIDAY AT THE MISSION OFFICE

Today was Good Friday and the Family History Center was closed in Sheffield. We packed up a small suit case and headed to Leeds. We have a new couple in the mission. They are the Smith's from West Jordan, Utah. Their calling is in Family History. I know a lot about Family History work, Family Tree etc. but there is always something to learn. Elder Smith taught me how to add photos to Family Tree. It was so fun except my computer is sooooooooo slooooooow. Elder Allen learned how to work in puzzilla.org. See we can all learn something new. 

We brought our griddle to make pancakes for Elder Goodwin's birthday. There is a kitchen and a counter to cook on at the back of the office. We mixed up the pancake mix and turned on the griddle right under the smoke alarm. You guessed it! We set it off and it would not stop even though we unplugged the griddle. Within a few minutes you could hear the fire truck coming down the street. Sister Wilson yell, "Everyone out. We will be in big trouble if we are not all out of the building." We were laughing all the way out the door. 

Here is the truck right outside the fence. The firemen were so nice. We told them we tried to call to stop them from coming out but could not find the number. They told us that in this country the code is 999. I will have to remember that. 

Sister Wilson is writing down the correct number to call. You can see the fire alarm on the far left wall up high. The the griddle is on the counter. You can also see the homemade syrup Elder Allen made. It tasted just like syrup from home. 

This is one happy missionary. He ate all eight pancakes. It was so fun to share this moment with him. (He was not here for the fire truck)

Being it was a family history day we ran over to Horsforth Woodside Cemetery were my grand-grandparents are buried. I have added all the headstones in this cemetery that I could read to findagrave.com. There are a few headstones I could not read. The other missionaries helped me write them down to add them when I get back to Sheffield. 

I always wanted to stop by Kirkstall Abbey. Everytime we come it is raining or we are to busy to stop. It was later in the day but this time we were able to stop and take pictures. This girl will do anything to get a kiss from this man. Love you Elder Allen. 

TEACHING ON BELMONT STREET

We like to teach with the missionaries as often as we can. This day we were asked to got teaching with them on a street called Belmont. The family they are teaching are scheduled for baptism and truly are amazing to teach. When we got there, there was four people in the home. A mom and a dad and two kids. A few minutes later the door opens, a people started coming in and sit down. Within a half and hour we had ten people there all wanting to hear our message. Elaine, the mom had her best friend come sit in on the lesson. They had been talking about some things that they wanted to ask the missionaries. We were just talking as the spirit told us what to say. At the end of the lesson Elaine said, "You answered all our questions during the lesson without us even having to ask you one questions." It is amazing how the spirit works. 

ROTHERHAM DISTRICT MEETING

We started visiting different district meetings in Sheffield A and B Zones. Today we visited with Rotherham. Elder Ulloa is their district leader. He talked about companion study time and how to get the most out of it. Their is more to reading the white handbook and the scriptures. We need to talking about what we read and have a dialog going between the companionship. 

Lunch in Rotherham would not be complete with our fish and chips.

We were teaching this family and who should knock on the door but Elder Ulloa and Elder DeShazer. Not planned at all.  

I also found a great charity shop in Rotherham. I am looking for little things to take home to give away.

VISITING THE GIBB'S IN HULL

About two weeks ago these yellow flowers just started popping up in the fields all over the place. We truly know it is Spring now.

 This is a statue of Queen Victoria in Queen Victoria Square in the heart of Hull

Hull is a trading post and is called Kingston on Hull in the East Riding, Yorkshire, England. Seaborne traded can be traced to the 13th century. This bench is made out of whale bones and can be found in the Hull Museum.

This statue looks like our mission president, President Pilkington. Right down to the glasses. He is heading north.

 This statue was made by Neil Hadlock from Utah. Sister Gibb personally knows him. 

This is the Humber bridge, the seventh longest suspension bridge in the world of it's type. It opened in 1981.

 These are more flowers on our way home. 

It was good to get together with the Gibb's and talk about missionary work as a senior couple. Our mission as couples is different then the younger missionaries. Each couple has to figure it our for themselves on how the Lord wants them to do the work. The Gibb's work with the young adults in their area where we don't do this type of work at all. We work more with the young missionaries and teach lesson with them. We also work with less active members and try to encourage them to come back to church. 

YANKEE DOODLE DANDY

It was the funniest thing to hear "Yankee doodle dandy" being played by the ice cream truck on the street today here in England. Wasn't that a revolutionary song? Nope, Yankee Doodle made by a British man, Richard Shuckburg to make fun of Colonists. Unfortunately for him, Americans loved the song. You learn something new every day. LOL We didn't get any ice cream. We were in a lesson teaching someone, heard the music and both Elder Allen and I looked at each other and laughed.

How can we be more personable?

6 And now, I, Moroni, would speak somewhat concerning these things; I would show unto the world that faith is things which are hoped for and not seen; wherefore, dispute not because ye see not, for ye receive no witness until after the trial of your faith. (Book of Mormon, Ether, Chapter 12)

Talk about who we are and why we have a testimony. 

even so will I, the Lord, reason with you that you may understand.

13 Wherefore, I the Lord ask you this question—unto what were ye ordained?

14 To preach my gospel by the Spirit, even the Comforter which was sent forth to teach the truth.

15 And then received ye spirits which ye could not understand, and received them to be of God; and in this are ye justified?

16 Behold ye shall answer this question yourselves; nevertheless, I will be merciful unto you; he that is weak among you hereafter shall be made strong.

17 Verily I say unto you, he that is ordained of me and sent forth to preach the word of truth by the Comforter, in the Spirit of truth, doth he preach it by the Spirit of truth or some other way?

18 And if it be by some other way it is not of God.

19 And again, he that receiveth the word of truth, doth he receive it by the Spirit of truth or some other way?

20 If it be some other way it is not of God.

21 Therefore, why is it that ye cannot understand and know, that he that receiveth the word by the Spirit of truth receiveth it as it is preached by the Spirit of truth?

22 Wherefore, he that preacheth and he that receiveth, understand one another, and both are edified and rejoice together. (Doctrine and Covenants, Doctrine and Covenants, Section 50)

The gospel is simple. We need to show how simple it is through how we feel. How can we share a true but confidence testimony? Focus on what we know. Ask them to come to church but tell them "why." The blessings that that come from why we come to church.

 Apply the principles will build testimony

 "Regarding one's testimony remember, that which one willingly shares he keeps, while that which he selfishly keeps he loses...Teach and testify. There is no better combination."

 We need to be the message that we share. Be the example. The gospel is good news, then be the good news.

We have two names on our name tags. Sister and surname. Surnames is our personally. Sister/Elder is represent Christ.

Elder Allen gave him a Snickers. Elder DeShazer got transfered to Rotherham. We have to think of reasons to see him. He goes home in five week. EEEEEKKKKK! Scary.
